Why Black Windows Aren’t Just for Pinterest
We recently installed black windows (interior & exterior) at our latest new build, and it got me thinking about how often I get asked about my window choices. Not only my preferred brand – which has been Anderson for the last many years but most recently, “are black windows still on-trend.” As with anything, it all comes down to personal preference, but my answer is definitely yes! However, it is a big decision, so it is certainly worth discussing what to consider.
I am personally on the black windows bandwagon and absolutely love this contemporary look, whether with black on the interior or exterior, or both. I have used them in my last three projects, and I just finished installing them on my current project. I’d say I am walking the walk.
Here are a few thoughts for you to consider:
What Style is Your Home?
I believe that almost any home style looks great with black windows, from cottage to contemporary, Mediterranean to farmhouse, coastal to bungalow. It's an easy way to put a modern twist on your classic style!
What is the right color choice to complement my exterior paint colors?
White is still one of the most striking exterior paint colors to pair with black windows, but we loved black windows with our SW Mindful Gray exterior, too (shown above). It really made the windows a beautiful design element. And the clean lines of the black windows added that modern touch.
How will black windows look with my interior walls?
I absolutely love how a black interior window frames the view much like a frame of a photo or art. I am also a massive fan of the contrast between light walls and dark windows. Clean lines and stark contrast give home interiors a fresh, neat look. If your windows are black, they will always be a part of your interior color plan. Don’t let that stop you! Rest assured, almost every color can work well with black and not require you to omit a specific color from your project.
Trendy vs. Timeless
I know black windows continue to trend, and you may feel like they are a more adventurous choice, but they are actually timeless. Wood or vinyl – both window types are a knock-off of the original black metal windows used centuries ago. So although they may be trending, they are definitely not trendy.
Window Coverings
Many say black windows look best without window coverings and are more for Pinterest than putting in your home. I think they are fabulous with or without window coverings. They look great with drapes or woven wood shades just as much as with nothing at all!
So take the plunge! Do the deed! Take the risk! Consider black windows for your home.
Until Next Time!
