Narrow Lot, Modern Farmhouse in the City – Why I Love This New Build!

Phew! We did it. We got our beautiful modern farmhouse designed, built, and sold in 2020. It is a smaller home that lives big. Warm and inviting, modern and fresh, this home is stylish enough to satisfy the trendiest of city dwellers.

I am excited to share many of the details of this beauty over the next several weeks but let's just start with some of my faves:

Black & White: It never gets old to me. From the fresh exterior to the kitchen and living space to the hall bathroom upstairs – I am a big fan of using this palate throughout a home. When paired with natural tones, warm grays, and sometimes a pop of color, I just love the energy and clean lines it creates. I always try to introduce other colors throughout my projects, but black and white are my current "go-to" palate.

Kitchen: I really love this kitchen! It is filled with tons of light, counter space, beautiful appliances, and a few design elements that make it pop – hello pendants & a white oak range hood. It isn't a huge space, but it makes every inch matter. And with it open to the dining and living room, it feels even more spacious.

Metal Railings: Because this house is on a smaller in-city lot, its width is narrow. To compensate for that, we used open staircases with metal railings that give the home a spacious feeling and keep it feeling modern but not too edgy. I just love how the bars wrap around the center of the house to the upstairs and downstairs. We tied in the same railings at the front door as well.

Master Bathroom: I really like the white tile accent wall in the master bathroom. It ties together the shower and tub area beautifully. I used ceramic tile on the floors and walls, quartz on the countertops, and natural stone on the shower floor. Mixing and matching surfaces but not too overwhelming. It feels like an adequate space to get ready for the day!

White Oak Accents: I am a massive fan of white oak, and I seem to pull it into each and every project I have worked on recently. From the hardwood flooring to the kitchen range hood to the beam in the master bedroom. It just feels like the perfect accent to white walls and cabinets.

These are just a few of the things that I love about this home. And I could not be happier with how it all turned out!

Cheers to you all!
